10 Scary Video Games That Will Change Your Life
Published: Dec 16, 2014 | Matt Grey
Video games are becoming more and more realistic. I think back to scary games when I was a kid. Nightmare on Elm Street for the NES was probably the best one I can remember. Today the graphics are so realistic that you find yourself literally afraid to play the game. In the last few years I've played a number of games that in some way or another left me a different person after playing them. Be warned, these games are not for minors.
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4 did a great job with the controls. It really seemed like a completely different game than its predecessors. There are some really creepy moments like when you are trapped in an old farm house with dozens of zombies with chainsaws bursting the doors down.
Alien Isolation
This is the only Alien video game that might rival the horror of the first two Alien movies.
Manhunt
Manhunts' plot didn't involve the super natural like others on this list, but the story line is sick and twisted and after playing it for a few days, I kept getting the urge to hide myself in shadows. It's one of those games where you have to learn stealth to win, if you get in a flat our brawl chances are you're going to die.
As the story becomes more twisted, it pulls you in. By the end of the game you are comfortable creeping up to enemies and suffocating them with a plastic bag. This game comes with a lot of controversy because the kill scenes are so intense. Definitely not a game for minors.
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2 is considered by many to be the all time best horror game. The story line is great and Pyramid Head will make you never want to leave your house.
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil never disappoints and has set the bar high for the horror genre. This game really terrified me but it was lots of fun to play. A classic zombie game.
Dead Space 2
The game begins in the asylum on the Sprawl, a densely populated space station surrounding a shard of Titan, one of Saturn's moons. Isaac Clarke awakens with no memory of the past 3 years since Aegis VII, having just been awoken by Franco Delille (protagonist of Dead Space Ignition), who is attempting to free him. The already-ongoing Necromorph outbreak claims Franco's life, leaving Isaac to escape on his own.[
Amnesia
The game features a protagonist named Daniel exploring a dark and foreboding castle, while avoiding monsters and other obstructions as well as solving puzzles.
Outlast
If you love horror games, you have to play Outlast. This is one of those games you'll want to play with the lights on.
The Evil Within
Have you ever played a game that was so terrifying, you almost didn't want to continue playing it? Well that was the case for me when I started The Evil Within. The game opening puts you right into the action. You have been abducted and find yourself hanging upside down, you manage to free yourself but you have no weapons. In the other room is a terrifying mass murderer who is chopping up dead bodies. Your objective, to escape alive...and that's just the first 10 minutes of the game.
The bosses in this game are all insanely terrifying. Box Head, A.K.A The Keeper, will haunt your dreams for a long time after playing this game.
The Last Of Us
This game scared the living crap out of me for all the right reasons. After I played this game I was very jumpy for about a month and found myself constantly hiding behind walls listening for zombies. The opening scene was enough to nearly make me cry. What an awesome game! This was a real surprise and a masterful addition to the horror survival genre.
