How To Make Probiotic Rich Yogurt at Home

Homemade Yogurt can contain up to 1000% more probiotics than store bought brands.

Most people buy yogurt in stores because it’s convenient and they haven’t been educated on the benefits of active probiotics in the digestion process. One of the concerns with store bought yogurt is the lack of healthy bacteria. Although brands advertise a certain amount of bacteria in each batch, when you consume store bought yogurt a good percentage of those probiotics have died off. On top of this, store bought yogurt can contain significant sugar levels which can upset the digestion process.

Making your own homemade yogurt is incredibly easy once you learn how. The big benefit of making your own yogurt is that the probiotics will be fresh and plentiful. In fact, when you make your own yogurt at home, it can contain up to 1000% more probiotics than store bought brands.

Most common digestive disorders occur from an excess amount of bad bacteria left in the gut from digested foods. Probiotics line your intestinal walls and ward off bad bacteria. Consuming yogurt just before bed can be very beneficial because when you sleep digestion slows down. The probiotics you consume have more time to help clean out your gut.

What you’ll need to make your own yogurt.
  • 1 gallon of whole milk.
  • Yogurt maker (they cost about $20-$40).
  • 1 large pot.
  • ½ cup of plain yogurt (this can be a store bought yogurt, preferably one that does not contain bifidus or sugar).

To make your own yogurt you will need a culture. You can buy a small amount of store bought yogurt for this step.

Step 1: Heat the milk in the pan until the milk begins to foam and expand to the top. It’s real important to continually stir the milk to prevent burning at the bottom of the pan. This process takes about 7-11 minutes, depending on your stove range and the heat your using.

Step 2: Allow the milk to cool to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. To help speed up the process, you can place the pot of milk in the fridge or freezer. Just make sure you remove it when it gets to the right temperature.

Step 3: Add ½ cup of your plain yogurt and mix thoroughly. This step is crucial because it introduces the probiotics to your milk. The probiotics will eat the lactose in the milk and multiple by the billions.

Step 4: Dump your mix into the yogurt maker. The yogurt maker is designed to keep your milk in a contained environment that is 100-105 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature is critical to helping the active probiotics reproduce.

Step 5: Leave the milk in the yogurt maker for 24 hours. When done, place your yogurt in your fridge to cool.

Your homemade yogurt can stay fresh in the fridge for up to 14 days. If you consume large amounts of yogurt, you can buy multiple machines and create gallons of yogurt that will last weeks and cost you a fraction of the cost of the store bought brands.Your homemade yogurt will be rich and creamy. You can also use it as a substitute ingredient for anything containing milk or sour cream. The important thing here is that it will contain fresh probiotics. This is a super yogurt that will help alleviate digestive disorders.
